Consider this blog post a “taster” since I’ll be meeting the hotel management for a more in-depth look in a few weeks.
To prepare for that meeting, I decided to check some recent guest comments on TripAdvisor. Here is a sprinkling for you:

What shines through is the hotel’s calm and understated service philosophy which guests seem to love.
It is part of the global Accor chain, which normally operates at the lower end of the market; surprising, since everything about the hotel exudes subtle luxury executed with a certain Gallic flair.

The décor is a fusion of British tradition and French modern style. It’s in a listed building tastefully converted from a former bank headquarters.
The hotel has all the mod-cons including a brand new fitness spa.
In keeping with the French theme there’s also a Brasserie Roux serving typical French cuisine on the hotel’s ground floor. I was intrigued that the hotel also apparently offers a Japanese breakfast, an original touch.
The Sofitel St James is conveniently-located a few minutes from key tourist sights like Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square.

It’s also well-placed for the shopping on Regent Street and the nightlife of Piccadilly Circus. We’ve previously featured other good hotels for shopping in London, including another TripAdvisor top-rated gem close to Harrod’s.
I look forward to meeting the management and revealing more about this distinctive hotel, which at first glance seems a bit of a hidden gem.
