Rather than pass on the government’s VAT increase from 15% to 17.5% (in effect since 1st January) the hotel has decided both to absorb it and further reduce its room rates, making for a total saving of 10%.
And it has decided to offer the deal throughout winter, for bookings in January, February and March (do contact the hotel directly for exact terms).
Most hotels will of course simply grab the “low hanging fruit” of the extra VAT given that many guests are blissfully unaware of the tax increase.
So Base2stay deserves some merit for this move which very much aligns with its overall policy of keeping an eye out for its guests’ budgets.
This is after all the same hotel which encourages you to use the local supermarket to make use of the in-room mini kitchen as well as to eat out locally at discounted rates. Not to mention its unlimited free WiFi and larger “superior” rooms which are often used for multiple occupancy.
Base2stay is also handy for the new and huge Westfield shopping mall (with its mindblowing 265 stores) for those who don’t want to go to Oxford Street – though there are direct buses from nearby which go there too.
So it could really be the ideal “base to stay” for winter shopping for those who wish to spend money on their shopping rather than their hotel.
