Everyone knows that celebrities are not like the rest of us, but do their peculiar foibles extend to their choice of London hotel?
In a series of blog posts we’ll put the focus on several London hotels that are highly-coveted by the rich and famous when they visit the city.
And we will look at whether the rest of us mere human beings are worthy of staying in the same hotels as the likes of Victoria Beckham, Ronan Keating, Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan, Fabio Capello and others.
We start with the May Fair Hotel which has been featured before for its wonderfully decadent bar. It happens to be across the road from the celebs’ favourite dinner canteen (Nobu) and near a host of upscale bars and clubs including the princes’ favourite haunt, Mahiki.
So it’s no surprise that the likes of Paris Hilton, 50 Cent, Peaches Geldof, Cheryl Cole, Ronan Keating and Whitney Houston all apparently stay there.
The hotel’s celebrity-friendly nature is reinforced by the fact that it’s effectively the HQ for the London Fashion Week extravaganza.
And while other hotels maintain a certain discretion about celebrity guests, the May Fair seems to sing about this fact from the rooftops.
Check out for example the special You Tube channel it has set up including interviews with its famous guests like Peter Andre and Ronan Keating.
Is it good enough for mere mortals?
The May Fair gets solid though not outstanding guest reviews and is currently just outside the top 100 on TripAdvisor.
But if you want a bit of glamour and glitz in an unbeatably central location, it may be worth paying its (rather expensive) room rate.
