A townhouse-style stay in South Kensington.

The Pelham is ideal for those who like discreet hotels with oodles of character

If you’re looking for a weekend away in the capital that is both sublimely relaxing and central but slightly away from the madding crowd, you’d do well to unearth the hidden jewel which is the Pelham Hotel.

Tucked away in a corner of lively and upscale South Kensington, the hotel offers visitors the chance to kick off their shoes after a busy day absorbing the sights and sounds of London in a tranquil little hideaway.

We’ve mentioned this hotel before in view of its convenience for shopping (with Harrods not far away) and its overall “cosy” and friendly atmosphere.

It is certainly well-situated for culture vultures, with both the Natural History Museum and Science Museum within walking distance, and the Victoria and Albert Museum and Royal Albert Hall also within easy reach.

The Pelham’s decor has a uniquely English traditional style

For those looking to take a break from London’s frenetic pace, the peace and fresh air of Hyde Park is also not far away.

South Kensington itself is a bit of a French enclave, with the French Embassy, a French school and lots of French cafes and bistros in the neighbourhood.  You’ll get a taste of Paris without needing to go there!

The favourable location of the hotel is clearly a plus-point for many reviewers on TripAdvisor.  As one user commented, “It’s right across the road from South Kensington tube which has three lines running through – this makes it very easy to get around London from the hotel.”

The service is also highly rated by many TripAdvisor users.  One satisfied customer remarked: “I can’t say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff were…Genuinely excellent service.”

The Pelham has quiet and welcoming boutique-style rooms in the heart of swanky South Kensington

The hotel’s 52 bedrooms are all individual and furnished in a fairly traditional style.  They have all the modcons (although some can be a bit small).  Communal facilities include a fully-equipped gym and a bar.

Room rates are not particularly cheap but not over the top either.  So if you seek a combination of comfort and tranquility, then the Pelham is a solid choice.  It’s currently well within London’s top 50 hotels on TripAdvisor.

And if you like this style of small boutique hotel then you’ll feel equally at home at the cosy Egerton House – a luxury hotel in Knightsbridge – currently ranked even higher on TripAdvisor and run by award-winning Red Carnation Hotels.
