London’s best martini at Egerton House Hotel.
It was a while ago that London Hotels Insight visited the cosy Egerton House luxury hotel near Harrods when it was briefly number 1 on the TripAdvisor London hotel rankings (out of more than 1000 hotels).
This was where we met the MD of Red Carnation Hotel Collection, who has since become Hotelier of the Year. The company has continued to go from strength to strength by listening to its customers very intently.
To its credit, the Egerton House has held its ground well and is still in the top 5 TripAdvisor London hotels. While its location is impeccable, the key reason behind this little gem’s success is the friendliness of its staff who do their best to create a welcoming, “home from home” atmosphere.
One of the main assets of the hotel is its friendly barman Antonio, who is reputed to make the best martini in London. I decided to go there with a friend one weekday evening after work to check this claim for myself.

The drink was a lot stronger than I expected. I was happy after a couple of sips that I was there after rather than during the workday!
And judging by how busy the place was – presumably not just with hotel guests – I was certainly not alone. A lot of hotel bars can feel a bit “dead” – but not this one. It was only around 5pm but the place was buzzing!
Particularly when you have a host as skilled and confident as Antonio conducting operations while he regaled us with colourful stories. He is a man who knows London inside out and is an effortless host.
So “mission accomplished”: I confirm that Antonio indeed serves a great martini as well as some amusing little bar snacks to go with it (including some tasty cheese on toast soldiers to help you soak up the alcohol).
And if you want an authentically English – and fun – hotel experience where service and TNTs (or Tiny Noticeable Touches) are everything – you could do much worse than pick the Egerton House; very handy too for discovering the many treasures of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
