The Baglioni gets in the mood for summer.

by Rajul on April 22, 2013

The luxury five-star Baglioni Hotel located slap bang opposite Kensington Gardens is getting itself ready for summer with a couple of innovations…

First it’s brought its luxury interpretation of the traditional Italian aperitivo to London which I sampled recently with a few other blogger friends. Aperitivo is an Italian tradition of after-work drinks and nibbles.  But the Baglioni’s take on this is uncompromisingly 5 star, as the pics below show…

Aperitivo snacks

Aperol Spritz

The traditional aperitivo drink is a “Spritz” (pictured above) or perhaps a prosecco, paired with a selection of the finest quality Italian snacks, meats and cheeses that you’ll find in London.  As @ALadyinLondon commented on Twitter, nowhere better exemplified than in the form of her gorgeous rose martini pictured below, it was all “far too pretty” to actually consume!.

Although my friends went for the classic Spritz, Bellavista or the rose martini, I asked head barman Marcello to make me his latest invention called “bitter kiss” – consisting of Campari which has been infused for 5 days in berries is shaken with Cointreau and further fresh berries.

It is finally topped up with a dash of Bellavista from Franciacorta before being served with a kiss – quite literally as you can see below!

Bitter Kiss

I enjoyed the experience so much I returned the following night and was treated to further Marcello specials including the amazing Moresca cocktail (Mirto di Sardegna, egg white, angostura bitter, cranberry juice, lime juice) from his native Sardinia, served with authentic Sardinian crispbread.

If the aperitivo (held every night from 6pm onwards throughout spring and summer, with the snacks changing regularly) isn’t enough to tempt you, rumour has it that a brand new secret underground private nightclub called “Clubino” is set to open this summer underneath the hotel.

The venue will be managed by Luca Del Bono, one of the co-founders of Quintessentially, and will be a classy place for live piano music, drinks and dinner.  It is set to become a must visit for hotel guests and locals alike.

The Baglioni is clearly the place to be this spring and summer!
