Mad shopping rush aside, Christmas in London really is magical.  There’s nothing better than snuggling into a scarf and a huge coat at the Christmas markets, steaming glass of mulled wine in hand or hitting the shops surrounded by a glittering coating of snow.

There’s just so much to do in London during the festive season and thankfully, plenty of nearby hotels where you can rest your weary feet at the end of the day.  Many even offer Christmas packages so comforting and luxurious you might be tempted not to set foot outside your hotel after all!

This is something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by organised travellers; as previously blogged in this post “more than a fifth of hotel rooms in London have already been booked for the festive week” (and that was back in early October).  That said, here are five of the best London hotels to consider sooner rather than later when making a booking for your unforgettable Christmas stay.

An indulgent and luxurious Christmas at The Milestone

Check rates at the Milestone Hotel

Sat right opposite Kensington Palace, the Milestone Hotel offers surroundings (and a decadent Christmas package) fit for a royal.  Allowing you to experience festive London at a much slower pace, the package includes a host of indulgent treats, a hint of romance and, if you’re staying over Christmas Eve, a unique surprise!

You’ll take in the Christmas lights by horse and carriage, go Christmas shopping by Bentley, see a theatre show of your choice, ride the London eye in private with a bottle of champagne and discover a treat of gold, frankincense and myrrh in the comfort of your room (among other indulgences).  The hotel also has the one-and-only spectacular Tudor Suite.

Proximity to attractions: If you’d like to explore then Kensington Gardens are on the hotel’s doorstep, while the V&A is a mere 10 minute stroll away and London’s iconic attractions can be reached by taxi or public transport.

Price per night: Package prices start from £1523 per night (incl. VAT) based on two adults sharing a Junior Suite.

A well-placed retreat at the Montagu Place Hotel

Something of a hidden gem, the Montagu Place Hotel is a lovely boutique offering not mentioned often enough in London hotel round-ups. Cosy, intimate and boasting a particularly well-stocked hotel bar, it’s the perfect place to retreat to after a cold winter day out in London.

Just a stone’s throw from both Oxford Street and a handful of well-placed tube stations, it’s also the perfect base from which theatre-goers can take in the best Christmas pantomimes and shoppers can indulge in a serious spot of Christmas shopping.

Proximity to attractions: 5 minutes’ walk to the Baker Street, Marylebone and Marble Arch tube stations, and just 10 minutes’ walk to Oxford Street.

Price per night: Room rates vary and are remarkably fair for the location.

Foodie’s paradise at The Corinthia London

Shopping and cosy nights in front of the fire aside, Christmas is all about eating, drinking and being merry, something that the Corinthia London has wholly embraced with a lavish menu of festive fare.

From free range bronze turkey with an apple and golden raisin stuffing at their Northall restaurant, to sea urchin risotto with a pumpkin and pomegranate reduction at their Massimo Restaurant and Oyster Bar, there’s something for both traditionalists and adventurous diners alike.

Proximity to attractions: Just footsteps away from Trafalgar Square, Embankment and bustling Convent Garden, with London’s main thoroughfare just a few minutes’ walk beyond.

Price per night: Room rates reflect the “5 star” ambience, while the Christmas set menu at the Northall starts from £55 per person.  The festive set menu at Massimo Restaurant & Oyster Bar starts from £75 per person.

A Christmas fairytale at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Vanderbilt Hotel

Mixing the delights of modern home comforts with décor inspired by its Georgian heritage, the Radisson Blu Edwardian VanderbiltHotel is a luxurious bolthole that’s perfect for whiling away a Christmas weekend. Their three course festive menu is just as indulgent, with the added perk of a modest £25 price tag and a complimentary glass of Prosecco!

One of the main things I love about this hotel is its proximity to ‘Winter Wonderland’ in Hyde Park.  Boasting an ice skating rink, circus, ‘Ice Kingdom’ and a Christmas market that looks like it’s appeared straight out of Lapland, it’s an attraction you can’t help but get lost in.  Plus there’s a stupendous hog roast and what would Christmas be without one of those?

Proximity to attractions: As well as a 20 minute walk from Hyde Park, the hotel is also right on the doorstep of iconic Chelsea, perfect for a more upmarket spot of Christmas shopping.

Price per night: Room rates vary but start from £117.

A savvy budget stay at Tune Westminster

Book direct with Tune Hotels at the best guaranteed rate

Christmas can be wildly indulgent and it often takes a bit of penny pinching to make it so.  Thankfully London doesn’t have to be as pricey as it first seems and is full of under the radar budget hotels free from the stereotypical grot.

Tune Westminster is one of the best.  With rooms available for under £100 a night and the option to add in extras like WiFi and a hairdryer, you can tailor your stay to suit your budget and leave as much money spare for taking in the best of London’s Christmas shopping, food and attractions as you like.  Book this blog’s Hot Deal to get a free comfort package.

Proximity to attractions: For couples wanting to take a romantic stroll among the glittering city lights the hotel is a mere 15 minute walk from Big Ben, and a 10 minute walk from Jubilee Gardens and the London Eye. For families and anybody wanting to escape the biting winter cold, it’s also a 5 minute walk from the London Aquarium.

Price per night: Room rates start from just £45 per night.

All of these hotels offer a Christmas experience with a difference, whether it’s an extravagant in-hotel package or close proximity to London’s most spectacular and historic attractions, unrivalled Christmas shopping opportunities and delicious eateries.  Whatever your reason for visiting the Big Smoke this Christmas, they will ensure it’s a magical one.
