It’s gin o’ clock at The Langham.

Two of The Langham’s bars have been creating a lot of buzz recently.

First they celebrated the launch of Hayman’s Gin Palace in the hotel’s grandiose Palm Court and then Artesian was announced as the ‘World’s best bar’ for the second year in a row by Drinks International magazine. And having included Artesian in our top ten London hotel bars we can certainly confirm the world-class quality of its drinks and ambience.

The Hayman’s Gin Palace had a fun opening party recently which we attended, drawing inspiration from the traditional Gin Palaces of the 1800s and the glamorous atmosphere created by a heady mix of jazz & gin.

The bar has Alex Kratena, the Langham’s head mixologist, behind the bar and he’s created the ‘Family of Gin’ menu, which features seven cocktails based on the range of gin produced by Hayman’s.  The bar is decorated with collectibles from the Hayman family archive to give it a truly authentic, classic feel.  The hotel also hosted a Gin Palace last year with a menu based on Sipsmith’s gin.

The intriguing menu we sampled (above) also matched various gins to food in an expert way, with various dishes paired with a distinctive Hayman’s speciality gin to enhance their flavours.

Hayman’s Gin Palace is open Thursday – Saturday evenings between 7pm and midnight until the end of November, so not much time left to enjoy it! Advance booking is recommended.  It’s a unique experience for gin lovers or indeed anyone who fancies the idea of stepping back into 19th century opulence with the likes of Oscar Wilde and Ernest Hemingway!
