Let’s do lunch at London hotels.

Big Hospitality have reported that the Melia White House has had great success with its restaurant The Place, which focuses on lunches and takeaways. Sales of takeaway food nearly quadrupled after the takeaway concept was launched in 2012 and they continue to increase.

They’re not the only hotel restaurant that takes advantage of the lunch rush; many have set lunch menus or lunchtime deals in their restaurants and others also provide takeaway or quick lunchtime bites.

The Place at the Melia White House is set up as a deli, with meats and cheeses, salads and ‘hot boxes’ available. They focus on fresh and seasonal ingredients and try to provide value for money…

You can eat in or take away and have a salad or hot food, including fish and meat straight from the daily grill. An individual tapas dish is as little as £1.50, so if you’re only feeling a little peckish and you’re short on time it’s perfect to grab and go.

Church Street Hotel’s Angels and Gypsies restaurant has a special lunch offering too, which they call streetfood…

Specifically designed to cater for those looking for a quick lunch and in line with the hotel and restaurant’s Cuban and Spanish influences, they sell burritos, tacos and tapas every weekday. They make their own tortillas and use free range and organic ingredients. Tapas dishes include olives, pickles, garlic prawns and oysters.

For an even more novel lunch offering, you can pick up a picnic hamper from the Albion café (although they insist on calling it a ‘caff’), situated in the same building as The Boundary in Shoreditch…

At £140 a pop for a hamper suitable for 2-4 people, it’s certainly not a cheap picnic, but if the weather’s right and you’ve got the cash to spare a leisurely lunch in the park is a lovely treat. They come with a wicker hamper and canvas bag and are packed full of British foods, so not only would they make a luxury lunch, but they would be a great gift too.

Lunch is an often overlooked meal, especially during the week . Many people don’t have time to eat properly while they’re working, but these hotels show that it is possible to have a quick and tasty lunch, whether you’re staying at the hotel or not.
