Anthony Gormley unveils inhabitable sculpture.

If there are two things that London does well, it’s luxury boutique hotels and sculptures. Soon visitors will be able to enjoy both at the same time, thanks to a new addition to The Beaumont hotel by Anthony Gormley.

Gormley’s latest sculpture is a huge crouching man made of metallic blocks, sitting atop the entrance of the hotel. But far from being just one more landmark to admire in London, it doubles up as a suite. The exact cost of spending a night in the room is not yet known, but it’s rumoured to be in the region of £2,500.

Simply titled ‘Room’, the suite has been described by Gormley as, “a cave, a tomb, a womb or a padded cell,” which he hopes will prompt guests to consider “existential” questions. With such a high price tag attached to a stay, when the hotel finally opens later this year, will guests be left wondering if it was worth the cost?
