After a recent night at the theatre, a friend and I ducked into the lobby bar at One Aldwych. With its timeless modern design, it was a welcome refuge after fighting through the crowds around the Strand and we were able to take a seat right away, even without reservations.
The service at One Aldwych never disappoints and this time was no exception. Our drinks were chosen by the barman, who asked us a few questions about our tastes and recommended something accordingly. All part of the service, rather than special treatment, as he wasn’t aware that we were bloggers.
I had Le Fizz du Jardin, a very sparkly vodka based cocktail with grapefruit, lime, ginger and champagne, while my friend sampled a One D.O.M. with Benedictine, vodka, lime and honey.
Both drinks were excellent and, aside from the quality of the cocktail menu, one of the main draws of the One Aldwych bar is that you never feel pressured to order more than you want. At some 5-star hotels it feels almost as if you have to earn your seat by spending “enough”, but not at One Aldwych where the setting is stylish but not pretentious.
With its stylish and gentle ambiance, the lobby bar at One Aldwych is a great place to round off a night out. You can wind down from the evening’s activities and bridge the distance between a good night out and a good night’s sleep with a great cocktail and excellent service.
