Shangri-La at The Shard opens one of the world’s highest swimming pools.

While the Shangri-La at The Shard has been open for a few months now, they’ve only just got around to opening their infinity pool. It’s a bit late for anyone who was hoping to spend their summer lounging by one of the highest swimming pools in the world, but at least they’ve had London’s other hotel rooftop pools to tide them over.

The Shangri-La’s infinity pool is inside anyway, so while you might get some sun through the revealing windows you won’t be exposed to the elements. A good thing too, because the ‘Skypool” is on the 52nd floor. At 11 metres long and 4 metres wide,  it’s a decent size for a hotel pool. And the heating will come in handy as it begins to get cooler, especially that high up.

After you’ve taken a dip, you can grab a drink from the Gong bar. Also on the 52nd floor, it’s the highest bar in London.

You’ll be enjoying some stunning views as you breaststroke or backstroke your way through your daily swim (or whichever is your stroke of choice). St Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and Westminster are laid out before you, if you have time to look between strokes. Although, judging by the seating area beside the pool, everyone else will have the chance to get an eyeful of you in your swimming costume. And while the sofas look nice, they’re probably not designed for sitting on dripping wet!

The pool is open for hotel guests from 6am to 8pm – perfect for a bit of exercise before breakfast or dinner.
