After hosting their first London Art Weekend in the first week of July this year, Brown’s Hotel are continuing to support their neighbouring galleries with weekly art tours. Every Saturday participants can meet in The Library at the hotel, for a welcome coffee or tea, before embarking on a tour of four Mayfair art galleries. The galleries differ each week, and after the tour it’s back to the hotel’s HIX Mayfair restaurant for a set 3-course lunch (with wine, of course).
The tours are led by a gallery director, a different one each week, who takes the small group of eight to their favourite artistic haunts. They’ll be showing the group galleries and shows both at street-level and behind closed doors, in appointment-only offices and studies.
The tours aim to “demonstrate the diversity and knowledge of Mayfair’s galleries and introduce visitors to the pleasures of an art world that lies beyond the gloss of the art fair and preview party”. Many of the artworks, which are diverse yet complementary, often go unseen by the public. The tour will reveal another side of Mayfair’s art scene that remains hidden to all except those in the know.
You don’t need to be a guest at the hotel to book a place on a tour, but if you want to stay you can take advantage of their ‘Mayfair Art Lover’s Weekend’ package. The package includes a night in a Classic King Room on a Friday or Saturday, with a full English breakfast, The Mayfair Art Tour on Saturday morning, WiFi, lunch for two at HIX Mayfair on Saturday, and either early arrival or late departure.
Over 30 galleries are participating in the tours, which cost £60 per person. Since groups are limited to eight participants per tour, it’s highly recommended that you book in advance.
