It’s only been a couple of months since the release of the Apple Watch, but hotels in London are already releasing their own apps for it.
From providing essential hotel information to allowing you to control the whole room, there are already several innovative ways you can use your Apple Watch in London’s hotels…
There’s no more fiddling with key cards when you can wave your wrist to open your hotel room door. The app uses SPG Keyless to open doors, not just on the Apple Watch but on iPhones and Android too. You can book your stay through the app, check in and see the latest offers and promotions.
Hub Covent Garden
The new and modernised arm of Premier Inn has been striving to be at the forefront of tech since its opening last year.
Their newly released Apple Watch app is in keeping with that, giving you the option to control the whole room from your watch. You can turn lights on and off, adjust the temperature and control the Smart TV, all from your wrist.
Hub think they might be the only hotel that enables guests to do all this. If they are, they probably won’t be for long. Not least because they have plans for nine more properties in London and three in Edinburgh.
If you’re a member of the Marriott Rewards programme, the group’s Apple Watch app will help you in their London hotels and beyond.
You can check in and out, receive room ready alerts, book and review your reservations at their hotels using your watch. That’s a lot of functions.
Marriott were the first hotel group to offer mobile check-in and out, plus the first to announce they would accept Apple Pay at some of their brands. So it’s no surprise they were keen to get an Apple Watch out ASAP. They’re also piloting keyless room entry at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel, so it could come to their London properties soon.
Accor’s Apple Watch app might not do anything particularly fancy, but you can use it for a lot of hotels.
If you’re booking with Sofitel, Mercure, Ibis, Adagio and more, you can do it using their app. As well as booking your hotel, you can manage your booking, check in, look at information about the hotel and access loyalty card details. Plus, you can choose from ten different languages.
Only a few London hotels are letting you use your Apple Watch for more than bookings, check-in and hotel info. But as many brands strive to be more high-tech, we might see more uses come along soon. Watch this space!
