Over-priced bottled water, tiny bottles of alcohol, snacks and other things to be ingested without regard to cost– these are the things that hotel guests generally expect to find in their minibar. But some hotels are taking things a step further by including a few surprises.
The Conrad London St James has recently begun stocking its mini-bars with selfie-sticks, of all things. If you’re over thirty and you’re not too sure what a selfie-stick is, allow us to enlighten you.
It’s essentially a stick of metal or plastic construction with a mount at one end that enables you to attach your camera or more commonly, smart phone.
The user is then able to take a picture of themselves in front of whichever landmark they choose, without the horrible business of talking to a stranger to ask them to take a picture for you.
According to Hotel Chatter, the Conrad is now placing branded selfie sticks in the minibar and selling them for £12. Not only that, the more narcissistic among us can even take advantage of a specially created selfie package, entitled #Selfie Package, for £320.
The package includes a selfie stick, accommodation in a Grand Deluxe Room, tickets for a sightseeing bus tour and, should you so choose, marshmallows in a box decorated with your favourite selfies taken during the trip.
To many the concept may seem a little self indulgent, but take a walk through any busy part of London and you’re likely to see at least a couple of selfie sticks, while social media feeds are practically inundated with selfies, so this may well be a shrewd move on the part of the hotel.
