London’s hotels get their Christmas trees up!

Don’t panic, but it’s only just over four weeks until Christmas. Even if you’re not quite ready for it yet, some of London’s hotels are more than ready.

They’re already starting to get their Christmas trees up, even though we’re not into December just yet. But since there’s only another week to go, they can be forgiven for getting a festive head start. And some of their tree offerings are pretty impressive…

Claridge’s Burberry Tree

Claridge’s Christmas trees are a pretty big deal every year. This year their “tree” is a Burberry creation, made up of nearly 100 umbrellas. Well, we are more likely to get rain than have a white Christmas.

The gold and silver umbrellas are made from a bespoke fabric, with 77,000 lights interwoven between them. As is becoming increasingly popular with this type of installation, Claridge’s are also getting social with a bespoke Snapchat geo-filter, which puts a border of metallic umbrellas around people’s photos.

The Connaught’s Very First Tree

The Connaught’s inaugural tree is designed by Damien Hirst, of sparkly skulls and cows cut in half fame. But there’s nothing shocking about the tree, although it is of course out of the ordinary.

Its decorations are inspired by science and medicine, with over 300 ornaments including medical instruments and snowmen made from pills. There are doves too, a symbol of hope, and garlands made from sausages (not edible…probably), symbolising Christmas as a time of plenty.

London Edition’s Florist’s Tree

The Edition’s tree is a tree that isn’t really a tree. It might look like one, but it’s actually made up of individual flowers, moss and ivy.

This handcrafted creation is nearly 20 feet tall and stands in the main lobby of the hotel. The inspiration from a traditional tree is clear to see, but it has its own twist on it too. The designer, Mark Colle, has included flowers not normally associated with Christmas for a special touch.

We’re sure to see more Christmas installations as we enter December. Will there be even more inventive takes than those already revealed?
