Go straight to pudding at Hotel Café Royal’s new restaurant.

by Laura on February 24, 2016

How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat? By not bothering to order any meat in the first place, that’s how. At Hotel Café Royal’s new restaurant, every course is dessert.

The new concept from the hotel is London’s first dessert-only restaurant. Of course, you can go to plenty of places that only serve sweet treats. But at The Café, everything is all about dessert and each dish can be served with an optional wine pairing too.

If it all sounds a bit too sweet for you, rest assured that the selection of sweets will also be accompanied by some savory bites.

You can build up to the sweet stuff with some nibbles to ensure you’re fully prepared. In the mornings and afternoons, the restaurant will also serve breakfasts, light lunches, patisseries, afternoon tea, hot drinks and wine.

The dishes on the menu have been designed by Sarah Barber, the first female pastry chef in the hotel’s 151-year history. She has previously worked at The Corinthia and Yauatcha and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. She said, “There is a massive gap in the market here in London for any decent places to get dessert. In many top restaurants, dessert is an afterthought — it is never the reason that you go there.  Here, cake is at the forefront — and all of the dishes are light so you can eat more of them.”

The restaurant will serve three dessert tasting menus from 6.00-10.30pm.

There’s the five-course Sarah in Wonderland, which is inspired by Alice in Wonderland. It features the Queen of Hearts, with raspberries, champagne and roses. The three-course Childhood Memories menu will make you nostalgic for your childhood favourites. It includes takes on delights such as rhubarb and custard and Jaffa Cakes. With the Pick N Mix menu, you can choose four dishes from across the menu.

The new restaurant opens on March 3rd 2016 with hours from 8am to 11pm. There will also be Easter eggs created by Sarah Barber available to buy from The Café between 18th March and 28th March 2016. They will be filled with salted caramel chocolates and finished with silver shimmer spray.

Definitely one for those with a sweet tooth!
