It seems that gin is the spirit of the moment at London’s hotels – or maybe it’s a timeless tipple that will never fall out of fashion. In any case, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel is having its own gin celebration with a masterclass on the much-loved drink.
Throughout May the hotel will run weekly Meet the Maker Gin Masterclasses.
An expert from Fever-Tree, the award-winning tonic brand, and a representative from one of three London gin distillers will lead the classes. The distillers will include Half-Hitch from Camden, 58 Gin from Islington and Sacred Spirits from Highgate. Participants will get to enjoy a gin cocktail while they learn about the history of gin making. Then they will try neat gins (no tonic allowed!) and get a lesson on gin tasting. Everyone will be provided with gin, tonic, glassware and a garnish selection so they can make the perfect gin there and then.
The gin masterclasses are part of a series at the St Pancras Renaissance, which began in March.
The first classes explored Life Drawing and Fashion Inspiration with Atelier Tammam, a London fashion house. Cured Meat and Craft Beer Pairing classes took place in April, with Cannon & Cannon and Oldershaw Brewery at the helm. There are further masterclasses to come throughout the year, covering topics ranging from photography and design to journalism and literature.
The classes take place in the hotel’s eatery, MI + ME, which is new this year. Located on the Upper Concourse of St Pancras International, the restaurant serves the best of British meat and cheese. If you want to pop in for some food, you can enjoy a G&T with your burger, pie, or cheese & meat tray.
You don’t have to be a guest at the hotel to join in with one of the masterclasses. Even better, they’re completely free. But the gin masterclass is sure to be popular, so make sure you book your place as soon as you can. The first class is on May 10th 2016 from 6pm to 7.30pm.
