Back in March, Montcalm Hotels and Eccleston Square Hotel were the first London hotels to offer complimentary smartphones to guests. More hotels are now joining in, including The Rembrandt.
Handy offers a service to hotels, allowing them to provide their guests with personalised smartphones. The phones can be used as an in-room controller, as well as taken out and about around London. All the phones can be adapted to each hotel, so that they can offer specific information and services. They can include useful apps, as well as both local and international calls. The service is particularly useful for international guests, including business travellers. They don’t need to go out and buy a UK SIM card during their stay.
More hotels have added Handy smartphones to their rooms in the last six months. These include 4-star Knightsbridge hotel The Rembrandt and, most recently, The Westbridge Hotel.
The Rembrandt points out that their phones include apps such as Uber, Whatsapp, Facebook, London City Guide and Google Maps. They also have unlimited 3G data, free calls within the UK and free calls to several international locations, including the USA, Saudi Arabia, and China.
Montcalm Hotels were the first in Europe to launch Handy, but they certainly weren’t the last. Eccleston Square, ever at the forefront of technology, was quick to follow.
Other hotels that now offer Handy smartphones to their guests include Number Ten Manchester Street, Hotel Indigo, and Park Grand hotels in the city.
One of the notable differences you can see in hotels’ customisations is the countries guests can call for free. These can be tailored towards guests. So in some hotels there are more European countries available, while in others they cater for guests from further afield. The phone can also have discounts and offers that are useful for visitors to London.
We’ll probably see more 4 and 5-star hotels add Handy and perhaps similar services to their amenities soon. Providing smartphones free of charge is a truly handy perk for guests to have.
