Dorsett Hospitality opened their first London hotel in 2014, the Dorsett Shepherds Bush. With their second opening next month, they have announced plans for two further hotels in London.
Just before the Dorsett Shepherds Bush opened, the hospitality group expressed desires to expand in London. They were already looking at several further locations for new hotels. The second property, Dorsett City, opens in Aldgate at the end of April 2017. Meanwhile, the third and fourth hotels will be located in Canary Wharf and Hornsey in Haringey.
Construction has already started at Dorsett Canary Wharf, but it might not be finished for three years.
It’s part of a development by Far East Consortium, of which Dorsett is a subsidiary, consisting of two buildings with 65 and 35 storeys. There will also be apartments, affordable housing, a health centre, and a school.
While the Canary Wharf hotel is within a new development, the Hornsey hotel will be within the Art Deco, Grade-II listed Hornsey Town Hall. The two hotels match the Shepherds Bush and Dorsett City hotels, which are also a listed building (a former cinema) and new-build, respectively.
The original plan was to open ten hotels in London, but that has now been scaled back due to the high costs of acquisition. Still, there will be four hotels once the two new ones are completed and Winnie Chu, Dorsett Hospitality’s president and executive director, says she is looking for further sites in both London and Manchester.
The Dorsett Shepherds Bush has done well since its opening in 2014 and currently has an average 85% occupancy.
About 30% of business comes from Asia, thanks to the hotel’s Asian-style service, contemporary decor, and Asian dining options.
At Dorsett City, guests might be more corporate than at the Shepherds Bush hotel. Free Handy mobile phones will certainly be useful for international business travellers, making calls and internet use easier. The hotel will also have three dining options, including a rooftop bar.
In a few years time, Dorsett Hospitality will have gone from no presence in the capital to four hotels. If they complete their projects on schedule, it will make them a lot faster than some other brands.
