As you probably know, London Hotels Insight has been running a free WiFi campaign for several years now. This is because we have felt for some time that free WiFi in this digital age is no longer a luxury but a necessity.
This has sometimes got us into arguments with hoteliers (and IT companies with a vested interest in selling them pay-per-use WiFi systems), as you can see from the comments below our open letter to hoteliers post.
So were thrilled to learn that Firmdale Hotels have seen the light and are now offering free WiFi at all their London boutique hotels!
Their properties include several of the city’s most highly-regarded hotels like the Soho Hotel, the Haymarket Hotel and Covent Garden Hotel to name a few. They are famed for their excellent service, which is why it was always an anomaly that they previously charged extra for WiFi. Even when we wrote to them and sent them their own TripAdvisor comments complaining of this aspect (pretty much the only complaint they got).

Where Firmdale deserves particular credit is the fact that unlike some other luxury hotels, they’ve decided to go the whole hog and offer complete high-speed access to their guests and not a confusing two-tier system (that surely is what luxury is all about rather than wasting guests’ time!).
And they aren’t the only luxury hotel group to see the light on this issue. As this blog announced a few weeks ago, the The Ritz recently began offering free WiFi as well. We’re so pleased and excited to see this trend!
Firmdale also recently released a film schedule for its hotel cinemas which are offering special films for Valentine’s Day. The only problem now will be choosing which of their gorgeous Kit Kemp designed hotels to stay in…
Our personal favourite is perhaps the Soho Hotel but that may be to do with the fact that we find it hard to resist its excellent bar…
