Every year, we make all sorts of New Year’s resolutions.
But there’s one that’s always on the list, to be fitter and healthier for at least the next 12 months. Sadly, our resolve rarely lasts longer than our annual New Year’s Day walk. But many of London’s hotels are offering stays and packages which just might kick start 2014’s health kick in style. Here are a few of our favourites…
Your own personal trainer at The Connaught
The Connaught has one of the best spa and gym experiences in the capital.
The luxury hotel has personal trainers who will create a workout for you tailored around your fitness levels and goals. Or you can work one-on-one with the in-house yoga teacher in a private treatment room. There are also kenesis machines, which are based on resistance, along with a 60-square metre swimming pool. And after all that exertion, you could always go and sit in the steam room, which is infused with essential oils to help you relax.

The Corinthia to the rescue
If you’ve really over-indulged over the festive season, The Corinthia near Trafalgar Square has the perfect package, including a full day’s detox at the ESPA Life spa. You start with a full body scrub before a detoxifying body massage, body wrap and facial, followed by a light lunch in the Spa Lounge. For a longer term approach, you could book a four or eight week weight-loss programme which gives you time in the gym with a personal trainer, alternative medicine, spa treatments and email & telephone support from the team. It looks like they have all bases covered for you!

Power plates at Grange St Pauls
While some hotels have just a small selection of fitness equipment, the Grange Hotels chain, which has locations around London, has luxury fitness clubs located on site at its 5* properties. Try the Grange St Pauls Hotel, beside St Paul’s Cathedral, where use of the facilities is free of charge to hotel guests. There’s an 18-metre swimming pool and studio classes throughout the week. You’ll also be able to use the Power Plate machines, an A-list favourite, which are said to combat cellulite while increasing muscle strength and flexibility.
Detoxing at The Landmark
If you’re dieting, then choosing from a hotel menu can sometimes be tricky. But The Landmark has come up with a delicious solution by offering a detox lunch on weekdays from January 6 to 31 at its Winter Garden restaurant. Chef Patron Maarten Geschwindt has created a healthy menu packed with super foods, with dishes including chargrilled tofu with edamame beans and chill or avocado, semi-dried tomatoes and couscous salad.

Amid beautiful surroundings at the Bulgari
If you’re going to exercise, you may as well do it somewhere simply stunning. The spa and fitness rooms at the Bulgari have been given the same luxurious touches as the rest of the Knightsbridge hotel, with onyx, oak Vicenza stone and Italian glass mosaics.
The centrepiece is a 25-metre swimming pool. And if you’re having trouble finding the motivation to change your life in the way you want for 2014, you could book a session with Andrew Wallas, known as the Modern Day Wizard, who practices spiritual psychology to create a shift in energy said to lead to joy and freedom.
While you won’t be able to stay in one of these hotels for the whole of 2014 to keep you motivated, even a short stay might just provide the prompt you need to get your started on a healthier, happier year.
