Gordon Ramsey at Claridge's

Today we’ve invited The Veggie Traveller (bio below) to write this blog post for us about the best London hotel restaurants for vegetarians.

Vegetarians are spoilt for choice in London, and it’s not only the many standalone restaurants across the capital giving us non-meat eaters something to celebrate. A large number of the capital’s hotels are serving up tantalising dishes to satisfy even the most particular meat-free palate.

Many of the top hotels have attracted celebrity chefs to their kitchens, several with Michelin stars to their name, and some of them even know a thing or two about vegetarian fine dining. These are the venues to head to if you’re looking for a memorable meatless meal.

One of my most enjoyable hotel dining experiences was at Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s shortly before it closed. Despite Ramsay’s well-known dislike for the non-carnivorous, the food and service was impeccable. Let’s hope Simon Rogan treats us just as well at the soon to open Fera at Claridge’s.

China Tang and Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester are equally pleasing, as you’d expect from the eateries set within one of London’s most famous five-star hotels, which boasts a string of celebrity clientele.

The China Tang restaurant at the Dorchester is a celebrity favourite

Although Chinese food isn’t exactly famous for being veggie-friendly, the wide selection of meat-free options at China Tang is impressive, with no shortage of tempting vegetable and bean curd dishes to choose from.

Asia de Cuba at St Martins Lane Hotel serves up tasty Latin and Asian cuisine in an unusual setting complete with art columns, while Brasserie Joel within the stylish Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London is also well worth a visit. Of course, The Savoy never fails to blow me away and afternoon tea in the Thames Foyer is highly recommended.

However, if you’re after dining with a view, Galvin at Windows at the London Hilton on Park Lane is by far one of my favourites.

While the veggie options are quite limited, the staff will go out of their way to ensure you are well catered for.

Next on my hit list is the Rosewood Hotel, containing the Holborn Dining Room and Holborn Delicatessen, which are the talk of the town. Although, they clearly haven’t read The Veggie Traveller blog or they would have realised that there is more to being veggie than mushroom risotto (currently the only meat-free option on their online “hot kitchen” menu).

These eateries are the latest in a growing trend of fine dining restaurants that have a snack bar/deli attached in the same way that The Delaunay does – another venue that sadly needs to work on its non-meat choices.

While there’s no question that it’s the luxury hotels that offer the best veggie dining experiences, I’m sure there are some hidden gems at the less top-end hotels too, such as The Hoxton Hotel and its accompanying grill. I, for one, can’t wait to discover them.

This is a guest post by The Veggie Traveller. A committed vegetarian for more than 20 years, The Veggie Traveller aims to spread the word that there is more to being veggie than mushroom risotto and goat’s cheese tarts.
