If you thought afternoon tea couldn’t get any more British, think again. Dukes St James London have doubled up on Britishness, by combining the traditional meal with another great British tradition – gin and tonic.
Based around a new Beefeater gin infused with black tea, their new ‘G & Tea’ menu takes the trend of tea-infused alcohol and the popularity of afternoon tea and brings them harmoniously together to celebrate two quintessentially British drinks: tea and G&T.
Guests can choose between either a black vanilla or Earl Grey infused gin, served in a delicate china cup reminiscent of the Prohibition, era as the hotel is sticking with a vintage theme. Then they’re served a homemade tonic syrup to top up as much as they’d like. The drink can be served cold with ice in the summer or as a hot punch in the winter months.

While the drinks menu is a mixture of traditional and innovative, the accompanying food remains firmly in the safe zone. Sandwiches include Scottish smoked salmon, ham & tomato, cream cheese & cucumber and coronation chicken. Plain and fruit scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, plus a selection of pastries, will satisfy those with a sweet tooth. It’s all sure to go well with the gin tea.
The new afternoon tea can be enjoyed in the hotel’s Conservatory or elegant Drawing Room overlooking their courtyard garden.
