Some hotels rack up the standard facilities when they prepare to launch: restaurant, gym, bar and meeting spaces. Maybe they’ll include a spa or pool. But others would rather think outside of the box…
For those more daring London hotels it’s all about having fun, which is why they prefer to set up rooms for games and entertainment. From bowling to table tennis, they want to keep guests and visitors entertained and active.
Check out the following hotels that are saying no to boring social spaces.
Bowling at the Ham Yard Hotel
Firmdale’s hotels are often quick to do things before anyone else has the chance to try it out.

The newest addition to the family is the Ham Yard Hotel, which opened in 2014. They’ve long had cinemas in their properties, but Ham Yard is the first Firmdale property to feature a genuine 1950s bowling alley. The alley was imported from the US, so it can’t get much more authentic.
The Croc Bowling Alley isn’t just a space for bowling. The room also features a baby grand piano, South African made sofas and two large-scale Howard Hodgkinds artworks. Bowlers can even choose to have UV pins and shoelaces.
For more bowling options, cross your fingers for the successful opening of the Old Street Hotel, currently being developed in the former magistrates’ court.
Ping-pong at Shoreditch House
If you’re more light-on-your-feet than you are throwing-really-heavy-things, table tennis might be a better option for you.
Members at Shoreditch House, which also has a hotel, can use the Games Room – a workspace in the day which transforms into a social space at night.
Each work station turns into a ping-pong table, so you can put away your laptop and get your paddle out. Waiter service is available for beers, cocktails or a bite to eat. And when you’ve exhausted yourself with whiff-whaff (as Boris Johnson calls it), you can retire to one of the bedrooms next door.
Billiards at Cannizaro House
Pool and snooker may be popular but you can’t get more classic than billiards.

At the lovely Cannizaro House in Wimbledon which has recently become a Hotel du Vin, you can enjoy a game in The Boardroom. The small meeting room overlooks the terrace, with room for 8 delegates. Flip the antique table to turn it into a billiards table – great for informal meetings.
If sitting around sipping cocktails isn’t for you, stand up and enjoy one of these fun games instead. With more hotel games amenities in the pipeline, we are sure that the fun factor in London’s hotels can only go up.
