London boutique hotels roundup – September 2015.

by Chris Glithero on September 30, 2015

Autumn is officially upon us and London is feeling a little less crowded after a busy summer! It’s sure to be a short breather though, before the waves of Christmas shoppers and revellers descend on the city once more. Here’s a roundup of what some of London’s boutique hotels have been doing over this period and what they have planned in the months ahead.

According to the Financial Times, foreign investors are currently seeking new property sites in London for ventures such as hotels. The article goes on to say that wealthy individuals buying ‘super-prime’ properties in London “would not even consider making a purchase [without] high-tech security, 24-hour concierge and boutique hotel-style décor.”

Nadler Hotels are set to open their third London hotel, with The Nadler Victoria launching in November.

The hotel is located close to Buckingham Palace and other top attractions such as Westminster Abbey. All rooms come with extensive facilities, including a Nespresso machine, microwave, 40” television and internet radio. Free Wi-Fi internet is included as standard.

The Nadler isn’t the only new opening in November though, with the Amba Hotel Marble Arch also soon to welcome guests to its almost 700 rooms. The hotel will also offer free Wi-Fi to all guests, which is hopefully a sign that more hotels are taking the need for complimentary internet access more seriously. Impressively, the mini-bar at the Amba will also be complimentary.

The Telegraph has revealed what it calls ‘the secret to the Chiltern Firehouse’s mouth-watering steak’.

It seems that the hotel has been sourcing 14 year old beef from dairy cattle from a supplier in Marylebone, in contrast to the normal age of 18 months to two years normally reached before ending up on a plate.

Though many of us would prefer not to think about Christmas until at least December 1st, if you’re planning a festive stay for romance, shopping or family fun, now is the perfect time to get your hotel sorted. The Telegraph has also recently published a helpful guide to ‘The Top 10 Best Hotels in London for Christmas’ to help you decide, with choices including boutique hotels such as the Charlotte Street Hotel in Fitzrovia, the Zetter Townhouse in Clerkenwell, The Milestone Hotel in Kensington and Brown’s in Mayfair.

If you’d prefer not to think about Christmas, take a look at ‘Spooky events at London Hotels for Halloween 2015’, right here on London Hotels Insight. Our picks include Firmdale’s screenings of special Halloween films at two of its London properties, including the Wicker Man at the Soho Hotel and the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Charlotte Street Hotel.

We also like The Lancaster’s ‘Frightful Fancies’ menu (which includes Eyeball Lollipops), and the Hoxton’s quirky ‘Haunted House of Toast’.

The newly refurbished Montagu Place Hotel is currently running a special offer which enables guests to benefit from free daily drinks during their stay. To take advantage of the offer, simply use the promotional code ‘FreeDrinks’ when making your booking at any point between now and 30th October. You can find out more about the renovation on London Hotels Insight.

The Andaz Liverpool Street Hotel is taking the innovative step of opening its events spaces to start-ups in the evenings. Their SpacetoStartup programme is offering start-ups the chance to work and collaborate in a ‘co-working space’ between 6pm and 10pm every weeknight. Costs start at £200 per month and you can register to become a member of the scheme here.

Dukes St James London has been named ‘England’s leading Hotel 2015’ at the World Travel Awards.

Upon receiving the award on behalf of the hotel and its staff, the hotel’s Managing Director Deborah Dhugga, said, “It is an honour to be awarded such a prestigious award. Myself and the Dukes St James London team recognise this is a huge achievement for the hotel and feel this is an acknowledgment the hotel is highly deserving of”.

Finally, Boutique Hotel News has recently featured an interesting interview with Brenda Collins, the UK director of Preferred Hotels and Resorts.

In the interview she comments, “The outlook is bright for independent and boutique hotels in the UK & Ireland. Today’s traveller seeks a well-rounded, memorable experience rather than just luxury accommodation. “ You can read the rest of the interview here.
