Love the Premier League? Don’t miss these 3 huge derbies!

by Laura on February 22, 2016

With several massive Premiership derbies coming up in the next few weeks, footballs fans are looking forward to some incredible matches. Below you’ll find a round-up of each mouthwatering clash and why it matters.

But the fun need not end with the game: why not make a weekend of it?

Who says you have to go home after the football? Some upcoming games are great excuses for a weekend in London, Liverpool and Newcastle. And Tune Hotels can offer you a good-value base in each city.

Merseyside Derby – Liverpool vs Everton – Postponed (originally Feb. 28th)

This weekend’s big match has now been postponed, due to the Capital One Cup final. So you’ve still got time to decide where to stay. There’s no new date yet, but keep your eyes open for news.

You don’t want to miss out on this event as it could be a game-changer for either team. With both Liverpool and Everton having had pretty mixed seasons, the result of this match could be make or break for both.

With Liverpool hosting Everton, Tune Liverpool City Centre makes the ideal base from which to attend the match and explore the city.

The hotel is only 2.5 miles away from Anfield, and if you’re ever in the city for another match, it’s also 3 miles from Goodison Park Stadium.

If you’ve already planned on a weekend in Liverpool this week, all is not lost. There’s still time to book a hotel room and make a weekend of it. Jazz fans will enjoy the Liverpool Jazz Festival, which takes place this weekend.

You can also read Tune’s blog post on spending a match weekend in Liverpool – even if the match you wanted to see isn’t on.

North London Derby – Tottenham vs Arsenal – March 5th

This exciting clash is very much on! And it’s one match not to be missed, with a lot riding on the result. The local rivals are fighting it out for top spot in the table, with only surprise contenders Leicester City currently ahead of them.

With everything still in play, this derby could have a major impact on the destination of this year’s Premiership! Anyone planning on attending the match has a choice of two Tune Hotels to crash at for the weekend.

Both Tune Kings Cross and Liverpool Street provide great access to White Hart Lane, with a train service from the latter and the Victoria line going to Tottenham Hale from the former.

With both offering easy stadium access, which you go for will depend on whether you want to celebrate (or drown your sorrows!) in the West End (near Kings Cross) or trendy East London near Tune Liverpool Street.

Tyne-Wear Derby – Newcastle vs Sunderland – March 19th

There’s plenty of time to plan a jaunt up to Newcastle for the big match next month. There’s a lot at stake for this derby. With both teams in relegation trouble, this match could end up being one of the highest-value games in history. As if local rivalry wasn’t enough!

Not only that, but it will also be a tiebreaker between these rival teams. Each has 53 wins each in the history of the Tyne-Wear derby, so this year’s could put one of them on top – until next year, at least. A truly huge match.

Tune Hotel Newcastle is just 13 minutes’ walk from St James’s Park.

And when not at the stadium, there’s lots to keep you entertained around the city. It’s a great cultural hub, with a host of things to do near Tune Newcastle. But if you’d rather spend the weekend partying and maybe nursing a hangover, there are loads of fun places to eat and drink close by.

These key matches can’t be missed, whether you watch them in person or catch them on TV. Tune’s hotels are ideal if you’re looking to make a weekend of it. Their central locations and budget prices make choosing them a no-brainer if you love to combine football with a fun city break.
