London’s best cappuccino at Mondrian London.

On a breezy grey Saturday morning I woke up craving a good cappuccino. I immediately thought of Mondrian London where I had previously enjoyed a great breakfast experience.

As a frequent visitor to Italy, I always find regular London cappuccinos too milky and not frothy or strong enough (I’m looking at you Starbucks!) and will usually only partake when over there rather than here.

But then I recalled that Mondrian London’s coffee queen Patrizia from Sicily had promised me “the best cappuccino in London” should I revisit. So I decided to take her up on her offer and was not disappointed!

A good cappuccino relies on the right equipment – which Mondrian London has, in common with other establishments – but also on the barista who needs to maintain the integrity of the component ingredients to create a well-balanced drink which in my view should leave a slightly bittersweet aftertaste.

The one served up by Patrizia was velvety rich, smooth, delicious and comforting like a warm blanket – exactly as a good cappuccino should be! It went down a treat, leaving a little chocolatey layer on the rim of my cup…

Suitably refreshed and sitting at the bar like in Italy, drinking in the river views as well as my coffee at this special bankside location, I was distracted by other morning liquid treats that I saw being served up:

Those green juices looked mighty tempting and I was assured by the bar manager that they are cold-pressed fresh every morning. Unfortunately, she seemed too busy to provide the menu requested to share some of the flavours with you, but this was only a small glitch in a great experience.

For the warm (here’s to hoping!) summer months, they also do a fine frothy iced coffee which I caught a little glimpse of:

As I was leaving, the receptionist mentioned that they also run a popular prosecco brunch at the hotel every weekend from noon (bookings advised).

So whether it’s a coffee break, breakfast or brunch that you fancy as you stroll along the South Bank, a leisurely stop at Mondrian London comes highly recommended: just remember to request that Patrizia prepares your coffee!
