Checking out the brand new South Place Hotel.

by Jules on November 5, 2012

The South Place Hotel opened recently and having heard quite a bit of buzz about it, I was excited to go along and spend a night there.  Located minutes from Moorgate station, the boutique property is the first hotel from restaurateurs D & D London.  The hotel has just 80 rooms all of which are individually designed and display unique works of art.

There are two restaurants, three bars (one of which is in a hidden garden), a heated rooftop, a private members club for hotel guests and a hotel gym.  I stayed in one of the South Place style rooms which was very spacious and business-ready.  My favourite thing about the room was definitely the bath – it was huge and the Heeley London products were lush too.

I also dined in Angler - the hotel’s rooftop fish restaurant – which serves fresh seafood and classic favourites with a twist.  The highlights were the grilled lobster, sherry trifle and tuna tartare.  After dinner I headed to Le Chiffre, the hotel’s own “private members’ club”, where I took full advantage of the complimentary snooker, the turntable with record library and the fully-stocked book shelves.

The next day I had breakfast in the Ground Floor all day dining restaurant and indulged in a Full English breakfast served by seriously stylish staff (uniforms designed by a local designer).  WiFi is free throughout and I have no doubt this hotel will be very popular with the business crowd.
