The best accessible London hotel rooms.

An accessible bathroom is just one aspect of the design of an accessible hotel room (image credit below)

In our previous article about London’s policy on accessible hotel bedrooms, we reported that there is currently a shortage of information on where to find accessible rooms in London.  With this in mind, we now present our rundown of some of the best accessible hotels in London.

Do note however that this is our own subjective opinion based on the information we sourced – please carefully do your own research before booking (useful links are provided at the end of this article).

Also bear in mind that the hotels below have been chosen purely on the grounds of accessibility and not on overall quality, service and amenities.

City Inn Westminster

With 22 accessible rooms, City Inn Westminster is one of the leaders in providing accessibility.  This hotel was recently featured for being a hotel “on the up” – with staff, location and amenities all getting rave reviews.

Being by the River Thames, the hotel is a short hop from the London Eye, as well as the world-class entertainment and nightlife of the West End.  It’s also near various galleries, making it a great choice for art lovers.

All accessible rooms are wheelchair-friendly and feature wide doorways, ample floorspace, lowered beds and fully-equipped accessible bathrooms.

The hotel also provides disabled parking in the basement, lifts to all floors and a hearing aid induction loop is available at reception.  Finally, we love the fact they invite you to contact the hotel’s General Manager directly by telephone if you have any queries about accessibility.

That certainly shows commitment with a capital C.

City Inn Westminster is currently in the top 10 London hotels on TripAdvisor and also has a decent number of DDA compliant accessible guest rooms

Holiday Inn Bloomsbury

The Holiday Inn Bloomsbury is a past winner of the Best Disabled Facilities Award at the Meetings and Incentive Travel Awards and also won a Bronze Award for accessibility from Visit London in 2008 – the only hotel to do so.

The hotel’s parent company, Intercontinental Hotels Group, has also demonstrated its commitment to accessible accommodation and in 2007 won Visit London’s Gold award for accessible tourism.

Being near St Pancras station, the hotel is ideal for anyone using the Eurostar.  It’s also well-placed for several attractions, with London Zoo, Madame Tussauds, the British Museum and Covent Garden all within range.

The hotel has several special accessible rooms near the reception and lifts.  There is also a hoist facility (a rarity in hotels and essential for some disabilities) and an emergency assistance alarm among other facilities.

You can find a comprehensive disabled access factsheet about this hotel.
