Designer London hotel rooms at friendly prices.

by Jules on June 17, 2011

If you like designer things but don’t have the money to match, the Hoxton Hotel in  East London may be the place for you.  The hotel – in the uber-cool Shoreditch area – last year gave three designers the task of creating a new room each.  Project Orange, Suzy Hoodless and Adrian Kilby were each given a room to re-design based on the theme of “East London”.

This is after all a hotel that has always flouted its location in a slightly edgy area and often showcases the work of local artists in its public spaces.

The rooms are now finished and available for guests to use.  All are equally stylish but completely different.  The Adrian Kilby room has exposed brickwork and is a great example of the many warehouse conversions in the area.  The Suzy Hoodless room is ‘industrial chic’ and pays homage to the underground clubs nearby with mock concrete walls and low lighting.

But The Project Orange room is our favourite with the bright orange shower tiles, sexy print on the wall, wooden furniture and patchwork throw.  It definitely meets the original brief of “luxury meets East London edge”.

The good news is that the designer rooms do not cost any more than the standard rooms, the bad news is you can’t book them (although if you ask nicely before you arrive you may be in with a chance).  We wouldn’t call the Hoxton an ultra-cheap hotel as its rates can be a bit steep at peak times, but it definitely falls within the mid-price category and also has free WiFi.

And if you don’t manage to bag one of the above rooms, you can always spend your time in the equally stylish lobby and bar area which is popular with locals and guests.  The bar serves up reasonably priced cocktails and is more of a destination bar than a typical London hotel bar.

What’s more, guests also receive a free lite Pret Breakfast, litre of water and half a pint of fresh milk.  Designer on a budget can never be wrong!
