Best London hotels for picnics in the park.

by Jules on June 24, 2011

Everyone will know where you're staying with these distinctive bikes (which you can borrow for your picnic in the park).

The English love a good picnic and with so many parks in London, it’s the perfect city to enjoy this simple pleasure (despite the London weather!).

Independent luxury hotel Dukes – recently described on this blog as “classic meets classy” – is one of several offering a “Picnics in the Park” package and all the joys of a summer’s picnic without any of the organising.

All guests need do is choose one of the hamper options, pick a location and time, then let the hotel do the rest!  The picnics are priced from just £60 for two or £120 for four and include a feast of potted shrimps with Forman’s smoked Scottish salmon, a mix of sandwiches, a bowl of Caesar or mixed summer fruit salad, an assortment of cheeses, pastries and desserts.

And if you fancy making a day of it, guests can use one of the hotel’s new bikes to explore the parks and find the perfect spot before calling Dukes to deliver your hamper complete with blankets, tea, coffee and water.  For an extra special treat there is also an option to add champers.  Dukes is just a short walk or leisurely cycle from Green Park and Hyde Park.

Hyde Park has lots of idyllic, quiet corners in which you can enjoy a picnic

But Dukes is not the only London hotel offering a “Picnic in the Park”.

The Milestone Hotel can arrange a traditional afternoon tea in the park with sandwiches, fresh-baked scones with Devonshire clotted cream and preserves, French pastries, fruitcake, strawberries with cream, a pot of tea of your choice and even Champagne.  What’s not to like?

And it’s open to non-guests too, so everyone can experience the service that has helped maintain the position of this luxury boutique Kensington hotel as one of the best London hotels on TripAdvisor for so long.

Last but not least is a hidden gem of a hotel – the Pestana Chelsea Bridge opposite Battersea Park.  It’s hard to believe when you visit this tastefully modern hotel (currently soaring up TripAdvisor) that you’re just minutes from the buzz of Sloane Square on the other side of Chelsea Bridge.

The Pestana Chelsea offers great-value dining as recently featured on this blog; and now also has a summer picnic in the park with a choice of tantalising menus: either a traditional afternoon tea or finger food picnic.

The latter sounds particularly enticing and features tempting delights with a distinctly southern European flavour including an olive, cherry plum vine tomato & boccocini salad, freshly-baked baguettes with a choice of fillings, a seafood platter, roast chicken brochettes and more…

There’s even a special “Kids’ Pick” available for just £5.50 per child.
