My kind of (My)hotel.

by Jules on July 13, 2011

Welcome to my private luxury penthouse...

Having visited Myhotel Chelsea in the past I thought it was about time that I got acquainted with Myhotel Bloomsbury; and where better to test drive the hotel than in its gorgeous penthouse suite.  So I stayed the night in myplace 1 which is located at the top of the hotel on the fifth floor.

Myhotel Bloomsbury has been described as one of the most stylish hotels near Soho and my suite certainly didn’t disappoint in terms of decor.

The suite has two rooms; a bedroom with king size bed and a smaller living area with leather sofa, apple mac and printer, kitchenette and a selection of magazines.  The decor is sexy but homely with black wooden walls and built in wardrobes, bright orange carpets, shag pile rug, plenty of lighting and eclectic modern furniture and artwork.

The bathroom has double basins, large bath, standing shower and BeeKind toiletries.  The highlight for me was the outdoor terrace with views over the London rooftops and table and chairs for guests to enjoy the sunshine.

The roof terrace with views of the chimneys - Mary Poppins eat your heart out.

The room also has its fair share of techy features with two flat-screen TVs, Mac, Mini stereo, iPod Docking Station, air con and a SoundAsleep Pillow which allows you to listen to your music through the pillow.

The hotel offers free WiFi throughout which is always a bonus.  Whilst in the cupboard you’ll find comfy bath robes and slippers, a fully stocked minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, a toaster and a juice machine.

The SoundAsleep pillows probably don't work too well if you're into heavy metal!

Outside of the room the hotel has a bar area called Merkaba which offers cocktails, food and afternoon tea.  Breakfast is also served in Merkaba and the small adjoining room named “my snug”.  The bar is light and airy during the day with a couple of tables outside, yet on a night it becomes dark and atmospheric, a destination in its own right.  It got an honourable mention in this blog’s shortlist of best London hotel bars.

A new addition to the hotel is Central which offers an alternative work environment to renting an office.  The idea is that as well as sharing a space, you can also share your skills and knowledge with other members.

Myhotel Bloomsbury has everything you need for a comfortable stay and more.  The penthouse is ideal for longer stays, with both a kitchenette and a well-stocked bookshelf that I didn’t have time to explore.  The hotel is in a great location close to Oxford Street and Soho without being right in the thick of things.  It’s also only a short walk to the British Museum.

Normal room rates start at approx £170 a night and the penthouse suite I stayed in (myplace 1) starts at approx. £700 a night + VAT - not bad for a luxury London hotel suite.  Do also check the hotel website for specials.
