A sizzling summer at the Montague Hotel.
The unpredictable London weather has finally perked up to hopefully rescue the rather mediocre “summer” we’ve had so far.
So it’s timely then that the boutique Montague on the Gardens Hotel is currently serving what is probably central London’s best barbecue. The hotel’s Wood Deck – a secluded haven from the hustle and bustle of London life – comes alive in the summer with the buzz of alfresco dining.
Tuck into succulent grilled tuna steaks, sticky baby spare ribs and surf ‘n’ turf burgers cooked on the chef’s outdoor grill. And there are vegetarian delights on offer too, from marinated halloumi skewers to chilli salt corn on the cob and Cajun spiced Portobello mushrooms.
You can wash it all down with one of the Montague’s delicious cocktails - a refreshing glass of iced tea, or the house special Pimm’s and homemade lemonade. Or a selection of excellent Bouchard Finlayson wines.
My blogging colleague Rajul went to check it out recently and tackled the succulent burger pictured below, followed by some perfectly-ripe seasonal fruit to offset this indulgence. Lady in London was also in attendance and wrote a mouthwatering review of this idyllic summer’s evening.

A beautiful burger with gloriously chunky chips enjoyed recently while dining alfresco on a balmy summer's evening at the Montague
You’ll enjoy this delicious food and drink in the hotel’s stunning surroundings. The Wood Deck overlooks the Bedford Estate and is a green, peaceful, sunny spot (weather permitting!). You’ll feel like you’re in an oasis of calm far removed from the crowds and traffic, though in reality you’re in the heart of Bloomsbury right next to the British Museum.
Every Sunday this summer the hotel also hosts a special lunch on the Wood Deck. Between 12.30 and 2.30, enjoy the chef’s spit-roast Porchetta suckling pig with apple sauce, chunky chips and salad. Accompanied by live music on the deck, it’s one meal you won’t want to miss!

The al fresco season at this 4 star luxury hotel runs until 18th September – do go before it’s too late. And remember while there that the Montague also serves one of the top 5 best-value afternoon teas at London hotels.
