Sculpted handiwork at Saatchi & a handy hotel.
The Saatchi Gallery, the contemporary art forum for largely unseen young or international artists, is currently exhibiting The Shape of Things to Come – an exciting collection of new sculpture. It focuses on 20 sculptors from around the world: from established figures like John Baldessari to relative newcomers like David Altmejd.
The exhibition examines the history of sculpture - from totem to statue, ready made to installation – with an eclectic and ambitious set of installations. Some are saying this is the best ever show at the Saatchi.
If it sounds up your street, do visit before it closes on October 16th. And check out our earlier review of the Saatchi Gallery on this blog.
Where to stay: Sloane Square Hotel
Slap bang on one of London’s most famous squares and a two minute walk from the Saatchi Gallery is the Sloane Square Hotel. The recently refurbished hotel has 102 rooms which all overlook either Sloane Square or lovely Holy Trinity Church; it prides itself on putting guests’ comfort first and even has special rooms for tall guests with longer beds and baths!
The hotel’s in a prime location, not just convenient for the gallery but also perfect for exploring the exclusive shops in Knightsbridge, the theatre district in the West End, or swanky restaurants and cafes in Chelsea.
