Your eclectic bolthole at the Haymarket Hotel.

by Holly on September 5, 2011

In the thick of theatreland sits the Haymarket – a charming sanctuary in the city centre.  Designed by Firmdale Hotels’ owner and design director Kit Kemp, it’s clear to see that a lot of style and love went into putting together each of the hotel’s 50 rooms, which are all individually styled.

This sense of style permeates everything in the Haymarket, from the ultra luxe lobby to Brumus Restaurant and the futuristic gym.  The hotel is a homage to texture, colour and luxury; rich upholstery, bold artwork, perfect light fittings and lots of indulgent touches make up the Haymarket’s look.

The Haymarket’s staff are warm, friendly and thoughtful – think a weather forecast attached to your morning paper and sleep spray to spritz on your pillow at bedtime. They’re also in the know; you’re in the perfect base from which to explore London’s theatres, shops and galleries.

Brumus Restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel serves up European brassiere dishes courtesy of Robin Read’s kitchen crew.  You’ll fit in best in the glamorous dining room if you dress to impress, so you may want to opt for room service if you don’t feel like dressing up.  There’s also a bar area in which to while away time and last orders are at a generous 1am.

There’s a well-equipped gym, but even more special is the pool.  Don’t forget to pack swimwear, as it would be criminal to miss having a dip in the moody, dramatic 18-metre swimming pool.

Inside scoop… Brumus bar feeling a little too busy?  Head to the library, which has a lesser-known honesty bar, for a bit more peace and quiet.

The freebies… Bespoke Miller Harris bath products, access to the hotel’s gym and pool. Complimentary extra beds for children under 12.

Don’t go home without… Trying the Haymarket’s delicious mustard butter kippers for breakfast – perfect accompanied by yummy sautéed potatoes.

Is there any downside at all to this heavenly hotel?  Unfortunately, the Haymarket Hotel charges hefty extra fees for WiFi, despite the complaints of several past guests who have expressed disappointment about this on TripAdvisor.  We do hope they review this shortsighted policy soon.
