The Athenaeum launches ‘Whisky Socials’ season.

The Athenaeum has already been featured on this blog as arguably London’s most child-friendly hotel.  But this winter it is offering a treat that is designed very much with adults in mind.

You are invited to discover the world of whisky at The Athenaeum’s hosted ‘Whisky Socials’ with leading whisky connoisseurs.  Participants will enjoy a whisky and food pairing experience that is aimed at both new whisky drinkers and more seasoned enthusiasts.  The idea is similar to The Stafford’s Pub Talks which we’ve already featured on this blog.

The ‘Whisky Socials’ will be co-hosted by the hotel’s whisky sommelier, who is one of only two in London.  Each session is in partnership with a different whisky brand.  The first one kicks off on Thursday 6th October led by Roger Mallindine with Aberfeldy & Dewa’s Whisky taking the spotlight.

The food menus have been carefully researched and refined to provide the perfect taste combinations.  In the first ‘Whisky Social’, guests can try Chicken Liver Parfait with Red Onion Marmalade or Crispy Pork Belly Fritter with an Athenaeum Whisky Sour made with Dewar’s White Label.

This will be followed by Dewar’s 18 year-old whisky with Roast Scottish Rib Eye of Beef.  Even pudding will be part of the food-pairing experience; Aberfeldy 21-year old is matched with Honey and Rosemary Ice Cream with Poached Rhubarb.  It will clearly be utter heaven for whisky afficionados.

The Athenaeum's Whisky Bar offers an outstanding selection

The second class takes place on 24th November with a Balvenie Whisky Tasting with Dr. Andrew Forrester, followed by a Burn’s Night Macallan Whisky Tasting with David Frewin on 25th January 2012.  The final event is a Dalmore Whisky Tasting with Richard Paterson in March 2012 (date TBC).
