A few months ago, I witnessed the birth of a new luxury hotel when visiting the brand new Radisson Edwardian Guildford the day before it opened.
Yesterday, a colleague and I revisited the same property – now established as one of the top luxury hotels in Guildford – as part of our ongoing free WiFi touchdown campaign.
This initiative promotes hotels with free WiFi to contrast them with others (usually expensive and snobby hotels) which insist on penalising guests with extortionate and often unexpected charges.
The “baby hotel” I saw a few months ago has quickly grown up!
The theatrical theme also extends to the carefully-selected artwork displayed in the hotel's restaurants and public areas
The lobby and public areas look absolutely stunning and all the function rooms were in use during our visit. This reflects how Guildford conference venues are booming as companies see the value of hosting events in a gorgeous country town oozing with character which is still within easy reach of London’s key airports and city centre.

We were particularly impressed by the two dining options provided within the hotel – the Relish ”best of British” restaurant from where we conducted our free WiFi testing and MKB cocktail bar and restaurant.
The latter has become a real destination in its own right with partygoers from all over Surrey making their way over to enjoy sophisticated Mediterranean tapas and exquisite cocktails. Both venues are worthy additions to the burgeoning Guildford restaurant scene.

We also viewed stunning spaces available for weddings within the hotel, including a lovely outdoor terrace and intimate function rooms.
These offer unique Surrey wedding venues in the sense that several luxury venues in the county tend to be a bit isolated in the countryside, whereas this one is tightly connected to an interesting town, making it ideally suited to chic weddings with a sprinkling of city glamour.

And the free WiFi? It was flawless as we tweeted about the hotel throughout the day from the London Hotels Insight twitter account.
Even though this was our first free WiFi touchdown outside London, it felt very much as though we were in a sophisticated central London hotel – just one that offers significantly better value than most.
