Top four Covent Garden luxury boutique hotels.

by Holly on January 4, 2012

The Radisson Edwardian Mercer Street is one of several hip hotels in always-vibrant Covent Garden

Covent Garden – a hub of activity with its plethora of theatres, wide array of restaurants, bustling bars and world-class shopping – is an easy choice when picking an area of London for your next stay.  And besides all the entertainment, it also offers rich pickings in terms of luxury accommodation; here are my four boutique hotel favourites, in reverse order:

4th place: The Covent Garden Hotel

Recognised as one of the best hotels in London, Covent Garden Hotel is moments from the area’s greatest attractions and has lovely views over the London skyline, as well as a top-notch restaurant (Brasserie Max).  Unfortunately they’re behind the times in continuing to charge guests handsomely for WiFi – despite being criticised on TripAdvisor for this shortsighted policy.  For example, recent guest 5StarHongKong praised the hotel but said: “At these room rates, internet access should be complimentary”, describing the hotel’s internet policy as “very irritating”.

A beautiful hotel but we recommend other equally well-designed hotels in Covent Garden where free WiFi is included in the room rate.

3rd place: St Martins Lane Hotel

The Philip Stark designed St Martins Lane Hotel pays homage to the modern aesthetic with its sleek lines, neutral colours and mood lighting.  Besides its amazing appearance, it also has a brilliant location, offers all the mod-cons and houses fusion restaurant Asia de Cuba. Sadly though, it’s another hotel that’s yet to jump on the free WiFi bandwagon…

2nd place: One Aldwych

On the other side of Covent Garden to the rest of the hotels on this list, One Aldwych is even closer to many of Theatreland’s theatres.  This grand old place has classic charm, is known for its warm and friendly service and has complimentary WiFi to boot – woo hoo!

1st place and recommended: Radisson Edwardian Mercer Street

The hotel recently underwent a huge makeover that’s seen it start getting rave reviews from guests.  Situated in the heart of Covent Garden, just off Shaftesbury Avenue, this luxury bolthole is stylishly bedecked, has friendly staff and offers free WiFi (in fact we recently did a free WiFi touchdown there and were particularly seduced by its swanky suites).

This boutique Covent Garden hotel is very much on the up – we’d suggest booking before the secret is out and its room rates inevitably rise.
