Mint Hotels are no more – but it’s OK (for now).

The rooms with free WiFi and iMac are here to stay for the time being.
When we first heard the news that Hilton had taken over Mint Hotels, we have to admit we were slightly concerned they’d come in and make big changes to a small hotel group which seemed to get almost everything right. Both London properties have been rebranded - Mint Hotel Tower of London is now the DoubleTree by Hilton Tower of London and Mint Hotel Westminster is now the DoubleTree by Hilton London-Westminster.
After a quick phone call to both hotels, we can confirm that there are no entry charges planned for the Skylounge – let’s hope it stays that way! But when we asked about the WiFi charges they didn’t sound so confident. The answer we got from the DoubleTree London-Westminster was that although other DoubleTree hotels do charge for WiFi access, the former Mint hotels “offer it for free… for now.” That “for now” at the end worries us, particularly since the Hilton chain usually have a stony silence when we e-mail or tweet them about their lofty WiFi charges…

We're sorry to see you go Mint Hotels...
But for now I guess we should rejoice that the hotels’ iMacs remain and guests will receive the same Mint standard of service and comfort as before, but with the added benefits of the Hilton HHonors guest reward programme. And in case you were wondering, you’ll also receive the famous free DoubleTree by Hilton welcome cookie.
So whilst the Mint Hotel name may have disappeared we can still cross our fingers for the free WiFi to stay – but from what we know about Hilton’s dedication to brand consistency, we advise you not to hold your breath!
