It may still be January but London hotels are busy trying to trump each other with their Valentine’s packages.  The Athenaeum for example may have created this year’s most extravagant Valentine’s experience.

It starts like a scene from a James Bond movie, where guests take an exclusive helicopter ride over the capital to visit the famous landmarks of their choice.  Back on land, a chauffeur-driven limousine awaits to whisk you from Battersea heliport to Mayfair where you’ll find The Athenaeum.  No paparazzis, please!

After check-in you’ll be shown to your room which just happens to be the Rooftop Suite, decked out with flowers from the hotel’s florist, a bottle of champers on ice and a mini-bar full of the finest gourmet food from Fortnum & Mason.  In the bathroom you’ll find a host of products and perfumes from one of London’s leading fragrance houses.  After a quick spa treatment you’ll be all set for the next round of treats…

Champagne on the Rooftoop Terrace - yes please!

And what treats they are too!  In the wardrobe you’ll find a pre-ordered couture dress for the lady and a suit for the gent to wear to dinner.  Not before your visit from the jeweller (of course!) with a selection of special gems that will make your eyes sparkle, also available to purchase if you wish.  Bad hair day?  Don’t worry as there will be a team of hair stylists and make-up artists on hand to have you looking tip-top in no time.

Once suited and booted, a private butler will serve you champagne cocktails and canapes on the rooftop terrace with its stunning views over Green Park and the London skyline, all whilst being serenaded by a singer/musician of your choice.  After a five-course dinner in the privacy of your suite or the hotel’s restaurant, it’s over to the Royal Opera House to meet the lead singers and watch the performance of Le Nozzi di Figaro.

Breakfast the following morning is served alongside a photo album of your “One In a Million” experience.  The price is only available on application, though we heard a rumour it was the most expensive Valentine’s package in London so far.  Let’s see if any other hotels can top this!
