WOW’d at The Montcalm…
Just before Christmas I spent a night at the five-star Montcalm Hotel in Marble Arch, a timeless classic boutique hotel that combines traditional touches with up-to-date technology.
The Montcalm sits in an alcove just moments away from Marble Arch tube station, perfect for strolls in Hyde Park or a shopping dash along Oxford Street. After being warmly greeted by the doorman, I was invited into the grand reception area with its marble floors, roaring fire and fully-manned reception desk. When I visited there were Christmas songs playing in the background which helped make the hotel feel even more welcoming and intimate, unlike other more formal 5 star properties.

My room was the ‘WOW Suite’ which certainly lived up to its name. It was so big in fact that we needed a tour of the amenities and an explanation on how to use them. It had no less than five telephones!
The bedroom had a huge four poster bed with a ceiling fan that resembled twinkle lights, a leather daybed, a reclining armchair with built-in speakers and a bathroom which had a glass wall so that guests could watch TV while at the same time enjoying a luxurious soak.

The dining area was kitted out with a dining table, flat screen TV, leather sofa, complimentary nespresso machine, mini-bar and a second bathroom with a walk-in shower. Guests in the WOW suite also receive a free basket of fruit and water. To put it simply the WOW suite is WOW!
WiFi is free throughout the hotel and those who stay in the WOW suite also benefit from access to the executive lounge with complimentary drinks, newspapers and computer stations.

One of my favourite things about the hotel (there were many!) was the spa which has a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi and exercise pool complete with wave emitting function so you can swim against the tide without going anywhere. The spa is available for all guests to use and has comfy loungers and fully-stacked magazine tables. There are also four modern treatment rooms with a very diverse spa menu on offer.

The hotel has two restaurants: The Grill (recently refurbished) and The Crescent. We dined in The Grill which specialises in meat but caters for all food lovers. Take my tip and try the Pave Rump with Triple Cooked Chips and Paprika Onion Rings, served on a chopping board. For dessert, chocolate lovers shouldn’t miss the chocolate plate – a whole plate of chocolate desserts which you probably should but won’t want to share!
With superb food, a great bar, luxury spa, impressive rooms and essential free WiFi, The Montcalm sets a high standard for discerning guests.
