London’s most exclusive hotel: fully booked all year.
London’s newest and most exclusive hotel opened this year – and has already sold out for the duration of its twelve month residency.
A Room For London is an installation by artist Fiona Banner, which doubles as a hotel. The boat-shaped room sits perched atop South Bank’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, as if it has accidentally washed up there.
The art installation/hotel is the result of a commission by Living Architecture – an organisation which aims to provide the public with opportunities to experience contemporary architecture; and Artangel - a body that commissions projects by contemporary artists. Fiona Banner won the commission with David Kohn Architects who brought the project to life.
But it’s far more than a gimmick. The ‘hotel’ is fully functioning – with a kitchenette and en-suite bedroom on its first floor and library with outdoor viewing platform (afforded some of the best views in London) on its second.
The one bedroom hotel was initially released on a 1-night booking basis only, but has already sold out for the whole of 2012. But if you haven’t got a booking, don’t worry – you can still go on a tour through A Room For London with artist Fiona Banner in this video.
