The Grosvenor unveils the Courtesan’s Boudoir.

The bedroom fit for a French princess!

The Grosvenor Hotel recently changed from a Thistle to a Gouman Hotel following an 18 month refurb and has just unveiled an original new suite.  The ”Courtesan’s Boudoir – The Cora Pearl Suite” pays homage to the hotel’s famous former guest the Cora Pearl who was allegedly turned away from the hotel following rumours of her hedonistic lifestyle.

We imagine that nowadays the bath would cost a fair amount to fill with champers!

That was in 1870 and now, 150 years later, the hotel has created a suite that Cora Pearl would feel right at home in.  The Courtesan’s Boudoir has an extremely sexy French feel with glass chandeliers, feather trimmed lamps and French inspired furniture décor.  The highlight of the suite is a free-standing ‘infinity’ bath, which is a replica of a bath that Cora had specially cast for her.  As the story goes she regularly filled the bronze bath with vintage champagne and bathed with her male companions - perhaps now she’d think twice about that given the cost of a champagne bath.

The recent refurbishment has seen all the hotel’s interiors restored to the glory of years gone by, with marble and gold leaf finishings throughout.

Guests who want to experience the suite can book the Cora Pearl package which costs £1,862 including private check-in, champagne on arrival, a personal butler, pre-dinner Cora Pearl cocktails in Réunion Bar and a 7 course dinner with matching wines in Grand Imperial, the hotel’s upscale Chinese restaurant.  After dinner, guests will find the bath filled with rose petals followed by a fresh strawberry and champagne breakfast…that’s a bottle of champers by the way, not a bath (for the latter you’ll have to go to the Cadogan Hotel as recently featured on LondonOnTheInside).
