Sweet shop cocktails at The Grosvenor’s Réunion Bar!

by Jules on April 18, 2012

The Réunion Bar takes a trip down memory lane with limited edition cocktails commemorating old fashioned sweets

The newly refurbished Grosvenor Hotel which recently unveiled its Cora Pearl Suite (paying homage to the courtesan and an event which happened in 1870)  is now taking another trip down memory lane.  This time it’s the hotel’s Réunion Bar which has created a set of limited edition cocktails themed around old-fashioned sweets – a first among London hotel bars.

The cocktail menu is available throughout April and features six flavours such as Pineapple Rock made with pineapple flavoured ice-cubes and some seriously pinky liqueur; Pear Drops, made from a mix of Wyborowa pear and limoncello; as well as the intriguing Pontrefract Cake which is a mixture of dark crème de cacao and absinthe.

There is no danger on not being able to find the bar here!

Keeping with the sweet shop theme, there is also a humbug and a butterscotch flavour, but my personal favourite has to be the rhubarb & custard made from a vanilla custard flavour, rhubarb compote, chase rhubarb liqueur and a splash of grenadine.

Réunion Bar is located in what used to be the first class lounge at London Victoria station and still benefits from views over the concourse.  The space was given a complete refurbishment with the hotel and now features plush carpets, luxurious furniture, a central wooden bar which has a huge statement light running around the top and art inspired by the golden age of rail travel.  It’s one of the grandest London railway hotels.

These are not the actual "sweet shop" cocktails but they do look a little retro too!

As well as the month long special cocktail menu, the bar also runs frequent events with big names in the drinks industry.  Next up is a tequila masterclass with Tomas Estes on Tuesday 24th April which is free to join.  Do check out the facebook page for details of future events or read our very own cocktail making tips learned from the Cavendish Hotel.
