Catch some seafood at Andaz Liverpool Street.

by Jules on April 24, 2012

Two juicy scallops inside a pork belly sandwich!

We’ve previously reviewed the Andaz Liverpool Street’s quintessentially British 1901 Restaurant and featured its creative Diamond Jubilee afternoon tea.  But the hotel also has a surprise for seafood enthusiasts.

Catch is the Andaz’s fine dining restaurant specialising in sustainable fish.  Head Chef Martin Scholz sources most of the seafood from within the UK and Catch was recently recognised as London’s best sustainable seafood restaurant by Fish2Fork, the sustainable seafood body.

The menu offers a selection of imaginative dishes including a couple of non-seafood options like lamb and chicken.  On a recent visit we tried the cheese souffle which was fluffy and light and the Scottish diver-caught scallops - two juicy scallops topped with a chive crust and served alongside small chunks of slow-cooked Suffolk pork belly.

Fish and chips are served straight from the fryer - literally!

For mains we sampled the fish & chips which are served in a wire basket and consist of a fried fillet of coley sat on top of a mound of chips.  We also tried halibut with slow-roasted, ethical-farmed Indian prawn - a generous portion of well-presented fish which went well with the spinach mash.

The dessert looked almost too good to eat...almost!

Desserts were mouthwatering too; the caramelized lemon tart was full of citrus flavour with a creamy texture which contrasted nicely with the icy clementine sorbet.  The chocolate & praline mille-feuille was served with a selection of goodies including a small mound of caramel popcorn.

To go with your meal the restaurant offers a pretty lengthy wine list with a good selection available by the glass.  The decor is just as impressive as the food with high ceilings, huge lights and lots of marble – a great place for a special occasion or romantic meal.

Catch offers delicious seafood in a proper fine dining ambience

As well as the a la carte menu, Catch also offers a cheaper set menu of two courses for £22 or 3 courses for £25, as well as a business lunch menu.  If you fancy trying some of Catch’s dishes at home, then do keep an eye out for the Sustainable Seafood Cookbook which Head Chef Martin Scholz contributed to, which is coming out in August 2012.
