Review of Indigo at One Aldwych.

by Jules on May 25, 2012

Indigo is one of the restaurants housed in the five-star One Aldwych Hotel located just a short walk from Covent Garden.  The restaurant serving modern European dishes is located on the mezzanine level overlooking the Lobby Bar which has a buzzy atmosphere and an open, airy dining environment.  One Aldwych is one of the best hotels in Covent Garden.

I recently stayed in the hotel and sampled the dinner menu on a Sunday evening.  The first thing I noticed was that the service is extremely efficient and attentive, exactly what you can expect from a 5-star hotel but not always recieve.  The waiter was on hand to recommend dishes, top up glasses, pull out chairs and clear plates throughout our meal.

The Fish Soup which started the meal off on a sound footing

The meal started with a choice of freshly baked breads including rye, olive and sour dough – full marks for variety!  To follow we ordered the Classic Fish Soup which was a light, spicy, soup topped with mussels.  The soup was served alongside a hot, fresh crunchy baguette and small dish of aioli.

The generous portion of Smoked Salmon nearly filled the plate!

Another starter of John Ross organic smoked salmon, blini and horseradish cream was a generous portion, the salmon perfectly complemented by the hot horseradish.

For main the Colchester crab spaghetti, chilli and coriander was a huge portion of pasta made up from various types of spaghetti with a nice chilli kick which added to the dish.  The fillet of wild halibut, wilted gem lettuce, baby artichoke and confit tomato with salsa verde didn’t disappoint either, a great dish for summer, full of colour and light enough for lunch or dinner.

The Fish - Summer in a dish!

To end the waiter recommended the One Aldwych chocolate plate and even though we chose a single portion there was more than enough to share.  The plate is made up of three separate mini sized desserts; a white chocolate and passion fruit delice, a caramel and white chocolate parfait and my favourite of the three, the chocolate and beetroot gateau with raspberry and beetroot macaroon.

For well-presented food in luxury surroundings I’d certainly be happy to recommend Indigo as one of the better London hotel restaurants.
