Diamond Jubilee tea at Andaz Liverpool Street.
We’ve previously blogged about the Jubilee Afternoon Tea at the Andaz’s 1901 restaurant (reviewed on this blog) and the chance to win a gorgeous pair of CARR diamond stud earrings; so we decided to check it out at first hand last Monday during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Afternoon tea at the Andaz has been themed around each of the five longest serving British queens for several months now, with tea in June celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II – the one we sampled!

The ‘Diamond Queen’ Afternoon Tea is the final showpiece of the ‘Tea fit for a Queen’ series. First, we tried a range of sandwiches including the coronation chicken on white bread and cured trout sandwich with leek and onion marmalade – both shown above. Our delicious sandwiches were accompanied by a creative tea cocktail containing Bombay Sapphire gin and Earl Grey Tea. It certainly kicked off our afternoon tea in style!

The selection of sweets was exquisite. Our favourite was the trifle with millionaire shortbread – quite a surprise as it’s an unusual choice for afternoon tea. We fought to scrape the bottom of the trifle glass!

We also tasted some more traditional afternoon tea delights, including sweet scones with clotted cream perfectly balanced by bitter orange marmalade; together with some fine pastries and cakes like mouthwatering dark chocolate and orange tarts. The eclairs were also more creative than the standard fare – flavoured with a Baileys crust no less! And the Victoria sponge had a delicate texture and lightness that beautifully complemented our deliciously fragrant organic Earl Grey tea.

Having afternoon tea at the Andaz was a lovely way to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and we recommend the venue for anyone who wants to enjoy a traditional tea within a contemporary setting. The atmosphere was relaxed yet inspiring and the service was fabulous. It has potential to reach the heights of the best London hotel Afternoon Teas.
If you still want a chance to win the valuable diamonds then do hurry and book your afternoon tea since the winner is drawn on 30th June 2012.
