Hold the Olympic torch at One Aldwych.

by Jules on August 6, 2012

With the Olympics now in full flow, London hotels are taking full advantage of their location in the host city by coming up with various innovative packages.  We’ve seen sports-related experiences on offer at The Berkeley and 45 Park Lane, a foodie experience at Andaz Liverpool Street and now it’s time to get the drinks out!  One of our favourite Covent Garden hotels, 5 star One Aldwych, has created the “Olympic Torch” (pictured above).

The cocktail which pays homage to athletes is served in a tall glass topped with a half passion fruit, a delicate hibiscus flower and an orange zest twist to make it look like the torch.  However with it’s fruity, refreshing ingredients which include passion fruit and maraschino, there is no danger of being burnt here!  Also on the menu is the Royal Cup served in a tea cup with gold leaf decoration – a cocktail inspired by the British love of tea.  All cocktails are served in the hotel’s gorgeous Lobby Bar.

Further east at the boutique Malmaison Hotel, the stylish basement bar Malbar has created a set of cocktails based around the Olympic medals, a Team GB Martini which is actually red, white and blue (very clever!) and a selection of Olympic shots in the colours of the rings.  The perfect excuse to get sporty, and by that I mean sample some funky cocktails!
