“Sensory” afternoon tea from Firmdale Hotels.

by Rajul on July 12, 2010

Firmdale Hotels presents an eclectic and original afternoon tea experience across all of the company's well-rated London hotels

Firmdale Hotels has done well to sew up some of the top spots on TripAdvisor for its six London hotels.  This has been achieved with a smart blend of good taste in design and attentive yet unintrusive service.

Their stylish Soho Hotel for example is a celebrity magnet and consistently in the top 5 London hotels on TripAdvisor from more than 1000 competitors.

The Covent Garden Hotel has also been featured several times on this blog – and well-known for its friendly service and unbeatable location.

Both hotels are inspiring places to spend time in – whether you’re staying in them or including them as part of a luxury hotel crawl.

Their other London hotels including Number Sixteen, the Haymarket Hotel, Charlotte Street Hotel and Knightsbridge Hotel are infused with similar design values, yet each one is distinct and individual in its own right.

They are now also innovating on the afternoon tea front with an unusual “sensory” offering blending the world of champagne and luxury fragrances.

This unique afternoon tea is now being offered at all the group’s London hotels and is based on a partnership between Firmdale, Ruinart (the world’s oldest champagne house) and Miller Harris (luxury fragrances).

Rather than explain this intriguing combination, I’ll just list one of the menus to give you an idea of the delights on offer:

  • A glass of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Champagne NV (Ruinart is the oldest House of Champagne – founded 1729)
  • Lemon cup cake
  • Peach and vanilla friend
  • Raspberry tartlet
  • Shortbread
  • Sandwiches: smoked salmon & crème fraiche, cucumber and basil, roast chicken and tarragon mayonnaise, cream cheese and black pepper
  • Choice of Miller Harris Fragrant Tea including Thé Bergamot, Thé Bigarade, Thé Pétales, Absolute from Turkey, Thé Violette

A lot of thought has gone into matching accompaniments to perfectly complement the teas on offer.  It sounds pretty tempting.   And at £35 per head, pricing is not massively out of line with other afternoon teas at top London hotels.   And we’d love for other hotels to be this creative!
